Winter Wedding Checklist: Six Winter Wedding Tips

Dec. 19 2018 Events By Midwest Rentals

A majority of weddings are held between March and October, but that doesn’t mean yours has to be. Winter is a beautiful time of year to hold a wedding! There are, however, a few extra things to think about.

1. Combine the ceremony and reception venue.

During the winter, you never know what the weather is going to be like. That last thing you need is for bad weather to cause travel delays. If you know snow is a possibility, consider having the ceremony and venue in the same location. This means less traveling for you and your guests and less time spent outside in the cold.

2. Stay moisturized.

In the middle of winter, your hands and lips may start to look dry and cracked! Make sure you stay on top of moisturizing in the weeks leading up to your wedding and on the wedding day.

3. Choose the perfect colors.

Purples, blues, and other deep colors look beautiful for a winter wedding! Check out this winter wedding color guide.

4. Dress warm.

How do you dress warm for a wedding? It’s a little easier for the men—velvet suits offer a little more warmth than a regular suit.

For brides, here are a few things you can do:

  1. Start with some thick tights! Unless you’re choosing a short dress, no one will ever know what you have on underneath.
  2. Wear closed-toe shoes. You’ll be surprised at the difference they can make opposed to open-toe shoes.
  3. Add a shawl or fur that matches your wedding dress. This will look super classy, as well as keep you a little warmer during photos.
  4. Other than that, add and remove  layers between pictures. Bring a jacket, gloves, and earmuffs with you and hope the time spent outside for photos and travel is short and sweet!

5. Rent a portable heater.

Some venues might not be as warm as you would hope. So, rent a few small portable electric heaters to keep guests’ hands and feet warm. You can also rent a few outdoor patio heaters for anyone who needs some fresh air.

6. Warm everyone up with a hot chocolate station.

Nothing warms you up on a cold day better than some hot chocolate, and a winter wedding is the perfect time for a hot chocolate bar! You’ll need a hot water dispenser, serving bowls for toppings, and plenty of cups!
